Introduction to BUSPAR
Buspar (buspirone hydrochloride) is an FDA approved
medication used to relieve the symptoms of anxiety. Buspar is unique
in that it is comparable in efficacy to other antianxiety drugs, but
has less risk for physical dependence or abuse.
BUSPAR (buspirone HCl ) takes time to work
Buspar works gradually, over a 2- to 4-week
period, to provide effective relief of generalized anxiety disorder
symptoms.
BUSPAR and other medications
Buspar should not be used with antidepressant
drugs known as monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors. Brands include Nardil
and Parnate.
Why is Elavil prescribed?
Elavil is prescribed for the relief
of symptoms of mental depression. It is a member of the group of drugs
called tricyclic antidepressants. Some doctors also prescribe Elavil
to treat bulimia (an eating disorder), to control chronic pain, to prevent
migraine headaches, and to treat a pathological weeping and laughing
syndrome associated with multiple sclerosis. |
